Polysorbate 20 is chemically known as Polyoxyethylene (20) Sorbitan Monolaurate. It is produced by ethoxylation of sorbitan monolaurate and contains a hydrophilic polyoxyethylene portion combined with a lipophilic fatty-acid portion. This amphiphilic structure allows Polysorbate 20 to reduce interfacial tension and improve the dispersion and solubilization of formulation components.
