Metolazone is a quinazoline-sulfonamide derivative and thiazide-like diuretic used in pharmaceutical formulations for the management of hypertension and edema. It promotes the excretion of sodium and water by reducing sodium reabsorption in the renal tubules.
Metolazone is particularly associated with diuretic therapy in patients with fluid retention and can be used in combination with loop diuretics in selected clinical situations.
Metolazone API is a specialized pharmaceutical active ingredient used for qualified pharmaceutical manufacturing, formulation development, analytical testing and research applications.
Metolazone acts primarily by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron. This increases urinary sodium and water excretion and produces a diuretic effect.
Metolazone can also maintain diuretic activity in certain patients with reduced renal function and is sometimes used alongside loop diuretics under appropriate medical supervision.
